How lovely that a sunrise can make one feel so alive. The light spreading its warm glow, the colors casting their pastel tones, & someone to share the beauty of it all bring a joy that can only be a gift from god.

Like other southwestern towns, Tucumcari is home to abandoned places left to fall into ruin. To some, the ruins might appear to scar the landscape. To others, they provide unique beauty— they provide a window into the past.

It’s not Italy, but the Blue swallow motel is reminiscent of the rainbow homes found in that lovely European country.

If you ever find yourself in Tucumcari, pay a visit to the donut shop down the street from the blue Swallow. With Dee’s Donuts style apple fritters and a dozen donuts for under $5, it’s worth it.

The best moment of a Route 66 road trip is when the flat land gives way to mountains that rise up on both sides of the road and loom ahead in the distance. Near Las Cruses, nothing compares to the view as one reaches the summit of the hill and descends into the valley. It’s like coming down to earth from the clouds.
